Science Reporter, Gizmodo

New York

Gizmodo is looking for an experienced reporter to join our science vertical. The ideal applicant is a super curious, fearless nerd who obsessively tracks cutting-edge scientific discoveries, from CRISPR to planetary science, and can speak with authority on a range of science topics, from Elon Musk’s latest scheme to animal psychology. Gizmodo takes deep but accessible dives into important research papers, puts a spotlight on scientific controversies, and calls B.S. on the latest pseudoscientific fads. If you have strong opinions, a good sense of humor, thick skin, and a passion for honest and thoroughly reported science stories, this is the job for you.

Gizmodo is part of Gizmodo Media Group - the publisher of the web’s most original and fearless media brands, including Gizmodo, Earther, Kotaku, Lifehacker, Jezebel, Deadspin, Splinter, Jalopnik, TrackRecord and The Root.  As part of Fusion Media Group, we reach an audience of +120 million visitors a month — more than one-third of all Americans.

The day-to-day responsibilities of the writer will include informed and engaging coverage of breaking science news, quick-paced reporting, larger analysis articles, and occasional feature writing.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 3+ years writing experience with a focus on science (specialization in space or health is not required but preferred)
  • Strong writing and reporting skills and a keen eye for news
  • A passion for science
  • Interest and experience working on videos including scripting and ideation.
